Why Nightcrawler's Missing From X3; More
June 25, 2005 - Source: BA

“The real story behind dropping Nightcrawler from the current script are two reasons: One being that the studio looked at the number of X-Men that were going to be in this new story and it was just too many to fit in.The producers really wanted new heroes like Beast to be given their own screen time as this is the first X-Men Movie they are in, and between the new heroes being added to the story and looking at how much the budget was going to be, something had to give. Nightcrawler's absense will not be explained, nor will the part be recasted." says scooper BA.

"Also despite what you might have heard on the web, Not everyone has yet said "Yes" to a return for X3. The studio does want James Marsden to return as Cyclops and there have been talks of getting his Superman shoot over sooner so that he can get to Canada in time for shooting this August."

"Also the part of Gambit has yet to be cast. Yes, he is still in the script, but no one has been cast in the part. I think they are close to signing someone for the part, but it is cutting things close to wire as there are barely two months left to get the movie ready both in casting and in readings so that everyone knows what the final script is all about."

***BTW, I know that I posted this pic a month ago, but I’m posting it again…LOL…MY choice for Gambit is still Greg Vaughan!!!***

A Possible Third X-Men Spinoff
Source: Variety
June 28, 2005

Variety says that Zak Penn, who with Simon Kinberg has written X-Men 3, has made a deal with 20th Century Fox for a two-year first-look deal to write, produce and direct.

Penn is a credited writer on the Fox films PCU, Behind Enemy Lines, X2: X-Men United and Elektra. Penn had a previous deal with the studio that he let lapse when he directed the improvisational film Incident at Loch Ness.

Aside from polishing "X3" with Kinberg before director Brett Ratner begins production, Penn is producing the Fox film Clan of the 7th Circle, a kid fantasy project that Michael Karnow will write. Penn is also expected to develop a film at the studio to direct, possibly a spinoff of the "X-Men" franchise.

The studio is already developing two of those, the David Benioff-scripted Wolverine and an origin story about the villain Magneto that Sheldon Turner is writing. Penn's would be a new movie.

oh wow, he'd be perfect! Though I am dissappointed to learn Nightcrawler will not return, he was always one of my favorite as a little kid.

Yeah...I think he'd be a fantastic Gambit!
I'm VERY shocked that Nightcrawler is not returning...the beginning scene of X2 with him in the White House blew me away!

Nightcrawler's absence will be disappointing, but then again there's only time for so many mutants in a movie. Gambit's inclusion? Wheeee!! ~bouncebounce~

I will miss Nightcrawler...but at least he had a good run in the last movie! I'd rather have fewer mutants and have them get good screen time!
I see that YOU are a Gambit fan too! YUM!!

Woe is me
No Nightcrawler? waaaaahhhh!!! :( I wants Mr Nightcrawler in the movie!!! My life is ruined now!!!

However, if I could get Mr Vaughan to go TO the movie with me in our own private theater, I might find hope again.
