OKAY...what surprised me and a bit of what's been changed...

At the end of Return of the Jedi I noticed in the celebration scenes, a few more planets had been included...Naboo and Coruscant pop to mind!
What REALLY blew me away was...I was waiting for the scene where the ghosts of Obi Wan Yoda and Anakin appear to Luke! I wanted to look at Sebastian Shaw and see if he looked like an older Hayden Christiansen! When they appeared, it wasn't Sebastian, but Hayden!!

What's Been Changed?
The rumors are true: Lucas made more changes to the films for their DVD debut. Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker) has been added to a scene in Jedi, Ian McDiarmid (the Emperor) replaces Clive Revill with slightly revised lines in Empire, Temuera Morrison has rerecorded Boba Fett's minimal dialogue, and some other small details have been altered. Yes, these changes mean that the Star Wars films are no longer the ones you saw 20 years ago, but these brief changes hardly affect the films, and they do make sense in the overall continuity of the two trilogies. It's not like a digitized Ewan McGregor has replaced Alec Guiness's scenes, and the infamous changes made for the 1997 special-edition versions were much more intrusive (of course, those are in the DVD versions as well).

Looking for the pics, I noticed alot of folks were angry with Lucas for 'tampering' with the originals. Nostalgia ia great, but I can't be angry...it's HIS story..HIS vision...so I think he should be able to adjust it as he sees fit! Just my 2 cents.

We have the set as well and overall like the changes he made. They do make sense and help the continuity of the story. The majpor changes he issued in the extended versions added some neat scenes, like more city scapes and cleaned up some special effects flaws. I don't think they hurt the originls at all but then I am not a purist like some people seem to be. I just can't wait until Sith is out on DVD.

I agree that they didn't hurt anything and actually helped some scenes along! The added cityscapes and Anakin really tie it all together IMHO! I can't wait for Sith to come out either!

I would think the changes would be helpful, but, as already stated, I could see where it could bother purists. Perhaps they'll offer an "untampered" set for those who want the films as originally done.

P.S. What's a trikogy? Is that the gay version of the movies that I missed out on somewhere? ;)
Mark: Hanboywondermark on May 30th, 2005 10:51 pm (UTC)
LOL! Luckily, I'm no purist...I want to see it the way the creator wants it seen!
Did I type 'trikogy'? OOPS!

It's what I expected him to do.. (he's not done milking this franchise for all it's worth.. lol) But hey, I am still a huge Fan, and will continue to be.. :)

Anakin could milk me! :b

All the wailing made it seem like Lucas had completely changed the movies, but it sounds like all he did was fix what would have been continuity problems between the two trilogies. I think I'll have to keep an eye out for that set.
Mark: Hanboywondermark on May 31st, 2005 01:07 am (UTC)
No way, Anne! All he did was clean up the sound and color...throw in a few scenes for continuity and add what he needed...nothing has changed storywise at all!

lol its probably better now any way.

Some purists won't think so...but I loved it!
